WELCOME TO BALER

Sabay sabay nating lakbayin ang tunay na ganda ng Pilipinas

MUST VISIT SPOTS IN BALER

1) Sabang Beach

It has a long stretch of gray sand beach, which is popularly referred as the Birthplace of Surfing in the Philippines. This is where you can practice surfing with moderate waves. The best time to visit is during October to February where the waves are bigger than regular waves. There are surfing instructors to help you learn the basics but not for free.

2) Diguisit Beach and Rock Formations

Diguisit Beach is really not perfect in swimming or snorkeling but the rock formations will surely capture your attention. This is a perfect destination for sightseeing and taking pictures of the amazing rock formations continually clashing with the waves. Rock hopping and climbing are good too but just be careful while taking good shots.

3) Ermita Hills

Ermita Hills is one of the most visited tourist spots in Baler, Aurora where it provides you an amazing view to Baler Bay. It is believed to be the highest point of Baler. This is where the survivors of tsunami, that hits Baler on 1735, climbed and witnessed the devastating wrath of nature.

4) Baler Catholic Church

Baler Catholic Church is an old church in Baler which is still standing even though Filipino troops made this church a stronghold during Philippine Revolution (also read Siege of Baler) on 1898 – 1899. The church was made of bricks and stones on 1611 but reconstructed on 1939 but the original structure and details can still be seen inside.

5) Museo de Baler

Museo de Baler or Baler Museum is where you can find amazing artifacts in Baler that are well-preserved. There you can find old jars, porcelains, old bells, amazing paintings and more! There you can see some historical preserves from Spanish period.

BALER SUMAN

This is actually the perfect suman for the tourist. It is a bit sweet already so no need to dip it in sugar. It is light, as big as a finger but a little longer, and wrapped artistically well. It is made fresh everyday so you can only buy them in the morning. It costs P5 a piece and is sold in bunches of 10. It comes in two versions -- the basic white and the ube-colored one made with rice coming from Dilasag, Aurora. This is the only suman that the kids love, and they eat it like a banana, one after another. I love it too. We just couldn't get enough of it (hindi nakakasuya). You can order it from Bahia de Baler, in the Rolling Stores or in the Baler Market every morning.

NANAY PACING PEANUT BUTTER

One of the things that I look forward to when I go to Baler is their creamy, yummy and locally made peanut butter. Aside from a private vehicle, dwellers of the city can reach Baler through a 6-hour bus ride. And right beside the bus station is the souvenir and take-home-presents (pasalubong) store where Nanay Pacing’s peanut butter can be purchased.

BALER`S ENSALADANG PAKO

Pako Salad is the staple vegetable dish in Baler. It is often served as ensalada with tomato, onions, and salted egg. It is always good every time we order it. Baler's Ginataan is also good -- its slight sweetness balanced with the creamy taste.
